Geologic Background:

Maderas (also known as La Madera) is a composite volcano that, along with Concepcion Volcano, forms the island of Ometepe in Lake Nicaragua. The hazard of lahars from Concepcion for the settlements on the island is known because of its height and steep flanks.t

Historic Activity:

  • There have been no known volcanic activity at Maderas in historical times.
