Geologic Background:

Forested Malinao stratovolcano, NW of Mayon volcano, contains a summit crater that is breached to the north. The eastern flank of the volcano is the site of the Luzon's largest solfataras and hot springs, some of which deposit silicious sinter.

Historic Activity:

  • There is no known historical activity prior to 1980.

Recent Activity:

  • Small phreatic explosion in 1980.
