Geologic Background:

The Mono Craters are an alignment of volcanic vents between Mono Lake to the north and Long Valley caldera to the south. The Mono Craters chain includes obsidian (rhyolite) flows, rhyolite domes, explosion craters, and a basaltic cinder cone.
