Wings Over Central Oregon

FACT SHEET

The Central Oregon events are being planned in celebration of International Migratory Bird Day.

 May 6th   -  Drake Park, Bend

 May 20th -  Pioneer Park, Prineville

Events will take place from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm and are FREE to the public.

THEME:

Boreal Birds – The 2006 International Migratory Bird Day theme will be “The Boreal Forest”.

SCHOOL ACTIVITIES PLANNED:

  • Skits on Migration

Goals and Objectives:

v     Our goal is to increase public awareness and appreciation of birds locally in the Pacific Northwest. 

v     The objective is to offer a high quality, outdoor, natural resource educational event that is non-political and non-profit.

Current and Future Opportunities include:

v     Schools – Provide classroom and outdoor educational opportunities focusing on birds, habitats, and conservation.

v     Edutainment – Provide a mix of education and entertainment that is creative, hands-on, and fun.

v     Recreation – Promote interest in outdoor recreation activities focused around birding and habitat restoration/conservation.

v     Cultural Awareness – Explain the social, traditional, and economic significance of bird species occurring in our area.

v     Activities – Expand visitor opportunities and promote the local economy.  Encourage participation by local businesses, organizations, and citizens.

v     Inter-relationships – Bring a diverse group of folks together with a common interest.
